Enjoy Your Fire Pit And Stay Safe This Summer With Help From Creative Environments
As you’re planning to create an outdoor fire pit this summer, you know how important it is to keep you and your family safe. The experts at Creative Environments of Arizona have some tips to help you enjoy every moment around your fire with the people you love.
Creative Environments recommends placing the fire pit at least ten feet away from any structures. If you can do 25 feet away, even better. The experts at Creative Environments state that while further is always better, this is especially important if you live in a particularly windy or dry area.
Creative Environments of Arizona says that it’s vital to have your fire pit placed on non-flammable materials, such as cinder blocks. Don’t make the surprisingly common mistake of using a flammable material to raise your fire pit to your desired height.
The experts at Creative Environments want you to think about the weather before you light your fire pit. While you may plan a party weeks in advance, if the weather isn’t right for a fire, you’ll need to make alternate plans. Creative Environments recommends checking the fire risk in your area, and forgoing the fire if it’s recommended by local authorities. If it’s too windy, you’ll also want to scrap your fire for the day. While it can be disappointing when you can’t use your fire pit, a bit of disappointment is better than the alternative if things would go south.
Creative Environments of Arizona wants to remind you never to leave children or pets alone near the fire pit. While this advice may seem like common sense, the experts at Creative Environments state that many well-meaning parents and pet owners step away just for a moment (perhaps into the house to grab more marshmallows or hot dogs), and that’s when accidents happen. The fire pit should never, ever be left unattended while it is lit.
After you’re done enjoying your fire, it’s important to dispose of your ashes in a safe way. You’ll want to drown the fire with water, and then stir what’s left with a shovel to ensure that the fire is completely out. Creative Environments of Arizona reminds you to never assume that the fire is out just because you no longer see smoke – faint embers can remain, and can cause the fire to light back up long after you attempted to extinguish the flames.
While you should enjoy your fire pit with your family this summer, be sure to follow these tips to keep everyone safe.
Many people spend the majority of their time indoors because that is the area that has been furnished and personalized to their likings. Creative Environments of Arizona offers a recommendation: create an outdoor living space. This allows homeowners to enjoy both the indoor and outdoor aspects of their home.
Creative Environments has become well-known throughout Phoenix by customizing outdoor spaces. They explore such features as pools, spas, outdoor kitchens, and more.
Creative Environments recommends looking at what is missing from an indoor space that can be used outdoors. Many homes lack large kitchens. Creative Environments of Arizona can, then, recommend an outdoor kitchen with a large cooking space, room for entertaining, and more. It ensures that a home has a kitchen space that works more effectively, even if it is located in the backyard instead of in the kitchen.
Further, the outdoor living space can be created to provide a tranquil space for the family. It is possible to create a space regardless of how large a backyard is. With enough planning, space can be used effectively, including using two-level decking, gazebos, and more. It allows families to spend just as much time outside as they do inside. It is a breath of fresh air and can also make use of outdoor space when interior square footage is smaller than desired.
Creative Environments of Arizona has recommended using home décor magazines and websites to dream up what the space should look like. Then, it’s possible to sit down with a landscape designer to see what can be created within the given outdoor space. With over 50 years of experience, the team at Creative Environments has been able to achieve a number of unique design ideas for their customers.
Every space is different. Creative Environments of Arizona is quick to remind homeowners that it’s important to establish a list of desires as well as a budget. Some ideas are easier to achieve than others. When working with a smaller budget, a beautiful outdoor space can still be achieved. However, it takes working with a landscaping professional to ensure that there are plenty of ideas to pull from. Exploring the portfolio of a company can help homeowners determine if a landscaping company is capable of achieving a particular aesthetic.
More About Creative Environments of Arizona
The landscaping company has been operating in Arizona since 1950. They have serviced residential and commercial properties throughout Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe. Projects are focused on the needs of the client and are small and large alike. They offer designs, pool and spa installations, landscaping, and maintenance. They believe the key to customer service is being able to offer an attention to detail with the unique designs they create.
With each sweltering summer comes more requests for pool installations, says Dan Waters CEO of Creative Environments of Phoenix, AZ. Along with other types of hardscapes and landscape planning, it’s a big part of our residential work each year, he says. However, if you’re not hiring a professional to guide you when planning your in ground pool, be aware that there are some things you’ll want to know before you begin. Here, Dan Waters, CEO of Creative Environments AZ talks about some mistakes he’s seen people make when it comes to installing their own in-ground pool.
Having your own pool is something you should be proud of, begins Dan Waters of Creative Environments AZ. However, if it’s something that’s not done properly, it can become a liability in the future when you go to sell your home. “It’s worth your while to talk to a professional and get some advice,” he adds.
“One of the things I want people to know is that installing an inground pool isn’t an easy job,” Waters says, but it can increase your home’s value if done correctly. One of the primary issues we see from other contractors is uneven walls or floors, he says. Creative Environments has special tools that most homeowners aren’t aware of that allows us to be precise, down to the eighth of an inch, he says. If your pool is the least bit uneven, it could detract from the pool’s function and the home’s value down the road. Creative Environments AZ knows this and takes special pride in making their customers’ pools something to be treasured.
“Speaking of unevenness,” he says, “that brings me to another point — inexperienced contractors.” Waters says if a contractor asks you to pull your own permits, it could be because they aren’t properly licensed for the job, he says. This is something you’ve got to ask the contractor, he says, along with verifying their insurance coverage.
“Another thing,” Waters says, “is many people look at the cost of the pool installation and think that’s all you’ll need, but you’re most likely going to want more than just a pool.” Waters says Creative Environments’ clients ask for things like special ledges, rock walls, and adjacent hot tubs. Paved patios are also popular with our clients, he says. Plus, much of the cost of the pool is for things you don’t see, likes pipes and filters which can vary in quality and pricing. So, when you’re estimating your construction costs, you’ll want to be sure to add in the little extras you’ll want so you don’t go over budget later.
Finally, you’re going to want to verify all references the contractor gives you as well as do your own due diligence, Dan Waters of Creative Environments AZ says. All contractors are going to give you their best references, but you should research a lot deeper than that, he adds. Ask for the last 3 jobs they’ve done, then contact those homeowners, he says. Creative Environments AZ customers know our quality and have seen our work from years of being in the business, he explains, but with an unknown contractor, you don’t know what you’re getting until you research them completely. “Better yet,” he explains, “just give Creative Environments AZ a call, and we’ll come out and talk to you about everything you’ll need.”
Creative Environments AZ, one of Arizona’s largest and most respected pool and landscape firms, is renowned for its team’s exceptional and innovative designs. But the company is also known for its dedication to giving back. Among Creative Environment’s many contributions was a donation of an automated irrigation system to the local chapter of Society of Saint Vincent de Paul’s Urban Farm.
St. Vincent de Paul is an international faith-based non-profit tackling poverty in all its forms around the globe. As the organization’s website explains, their work includes a broad range of assistance services, including visiting the sick and imprisoned, helping people overcome addiction, and offering practical necessities such as food and shelter to those in need.
The Phoenix chapter, in line with its mission to feed the hungry, built an Urban Farm just south of downtown. Over the years, with the help of many community volunteers and several hours of hard work, the farm transformed from a single-bed garden to an acre’s worth of flora brimming with fresh produce. Tens of thousands of pounds of food are produced every year. The harvest is used to feed people at each of the St. Vincent de Paul kitchens in the Valley.
Creative Environments AZ contributed an automated irrigation system to keep the farm lush and fruitful even in Arizona’s arid climate. The irrigation system increases efficiency, a must for the all-volunteer farm operation. It also conserves water, which aligns with Creative Environments’ commitment to sustainable building and landscaping solutions.

The Golden Nugget Awards are an annual honor presented by the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC), the largest tradeshow of its kind in the Western United States. Attracting hundreds of the most talented homebuilders and landscape designers from the U.S. and around the world, to say competition is fierce at the PCBC is an understatement. The select few crowned winners, simply put, the best of the best.
“The Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest, and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,” said judging chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish, in a 2017 interview with Builder Magazine. “We applaud them all, and were thrilled to recognize them with a celebration of merit and grand award winners.”
Each year, Merit winners and one Grand Prize winner are selected for each of 50 categories. These include single-family production, custom homes, commercial, office space, renovated projects, mixed-use, affordable, multi-family projects, and site planning. Entries are judged on several criteria, including originality, innovation, and impact.

Ask anyone in Central Arizona to recommend a great local landscaper, and you’re likely to hear one name: Creative Environments AZ. Since 1950, the pool and landscape firm has served a diverse clientele, creating beautiful, functional outdoor living spaces and landscapes for residents of Gilbert, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and surrounding areas.
With their unparalleled talent and impeccable eye, it’s no wonder the firm has had such an illustrious career. Over the years, Creative Environments AZ has won several accolades, including the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) Golden Nugget Grand Award for “Home of the Year” in 2017.
PCBC, an annual homebuilding tradeshow, the largest of its kind in the Western United States, attracts thousands of the most talented homebuilders and landscape designers, of which a select few are recognized as the creme de la creme. The “Home of the Year” award is the highest honor of all, for which over 600 entrants competed in 2017 alone. The prestigious accolade recognizes the exceptional architectural design, planning, and development, a property that is original, innovative, and impactful. With a slew of prominent competitors and lofty criteria, it’s no small feat to nab a win.
The year’s all-star abode was Sullivan Design at Toll Brothers at Adero Canyon in Fountain Hills, AZ. The exceptional concept was a team effort by the Sullivan and Parker design teams, consisting of planning by Creative Environments AZ, architecture by RFT Design, and interior design by Ryan Young Interiors and Est Est.
A mid-century modern with a unique floor plan that marries modern urbanity with the suburban Sonoran desert environment, The Sullivan Design also claimed the Grand Award for Best Single Family Detached Home 4,000 to 5,000 Square Feet. True to Creative Environments AZ’s name, the property features hardscaping and landscaping which accentuates the area’s natural beauty while providing an outdoor entertainment and living space that is as elegant and original as it is comfortable.
According to The Sullivan’s Judging Statement, “Beginning with an innovative floor plan and continuing throughout the entire home site, this home is filled with creative ideas and thoughtful execution. By using an ‘upside down’ concept, the home takes full advantage of the site and surrounding desert views.
“This ‘Home of the Year’ should be applauded and serves as a standard for all as an example of not compromising design. Incorporating elements normally found in custom design, this home deserves all the accolades for not giving up, but showing what is and should be possible in housing today.”
The award in and of itself is enough to put any landscape firm on the map, but Creative Environments has long had a seat at the winners’ table, having earned the NAHB Gold Award in 2015 and MAME award for “Best Outdoor Merchandising” in 2017. Since securing the Golden Nugget “Home of the Year” Grand Award in 2017, the esteemed firm also earned the Golden Nugget Award of Merit for “Best Landscape Design” in 2018.
In addition to the aforementioned titles and a gold-star reputation throughout Arizona, they’ve earned recognition as the #1 Landscaping Designer in Phoenix, thanks to their steadfast commitment to quality and customer service. This dedication to the people behind their designs has likewise prompted the firm to continuously strive to improve sustainability. In addition, the team is actively involved with the Future for Kids Foundation and recently partnered with a local farm to create an automated irrigation system. For Creative Environments AZ, as well as their clients and community, the future looks as bright as their ideas.
Creative Environments AZ is one of the biggest pool and landscape firms in Arizona, catering to a diverse clientele since 1950. The firm is known for its smart outdoor designs, inventive layouts, and sustainable constructions.
To say the company is no stranger to accolades is an understatement. In 2017, it won The National Association of Home Builders “The Nationals” Silver Award for “Best Outdoor Living Space” – and quite deservedly so!
With some very impressive candidates and equally impressive entries, this award puts Creative Environments in very rare company. NAHB judges based on conception, creativity, and impact, and hopefuls have to satisfy some extremely challenging criteria.
The Winning Entry, Trovilla, Fuses Desert Luxury With Flawless Functionality
The Trovilla model helped the firm land the “Best Outdoor Living Space” accolade. Creative Environments AZ was responsible for the landscaping of the model; a piece set against the stunning Sonoran desert with panoramas of the Pinnacle Peak and Four Peaks mountain ranges. It is quintessential alfresco living.
Trovilla was built by The Toll Brothers, and rivals some of the most well-known hotels that incorporate unparalleled design and innovation. Its backyard features a phenomenal negative edge pool and cascading water fixtures.
Said a spokesperson for Creative Environments, “This is a highly prestigious award that has set the benchmark for creative living. The team counts itself lucky to be able to bring such a notable award home to Arizona. We plan to live up to the exceedingly high standards bestowed upon us. With each new model, our aim is to up the ante and push the boundaries of innovation.”
The company has every right to be proud considering that the three-day judging process is presided over by a panel of seven experts that hail from all over the country. They determine the winners from a pool of over 1,000 candidates. NAHB rewards outstanding accomplishments throughout the year and refines the industry benchmark with every passing year.
Creative Environments also nabbed the Golden Nugget Award of Merit for “Best Landscape Design” in 2018, the MAME award for “Best Outdoor Merchandising” in 2017, and the NAHB Gold Award in 2015, to name a few.
This uncompromising work ethic has lead to Creative Environments being hailed as the #1 Landscaping Designer in Phoenix by the community. Using state-of-the-art technology, the company has grown from strength to strength, quickly establishing itself as a frontrunner in the industry. The bedrock of its success? Exceptional customer service. The company crafts unique designs that suit the preferences of each client.
